The Powerhouse Arena, home to art book publisher powerHouse Books, recently launched its brand-new children’s imprint, POW! on October 25. The imprint strives to publish visually driven, imagination-fueled books for kids that combine an offbeat sensibility with outstanding design to appeal to both children and adults. The indie publisher will release 10-12 books a year, and its freshman list includes Patchwork Helps a Friend by Gail Greiner and Jacqueline Schmidt, out this month.

Little, Brown celebrated the art of Caldecott Medalist Jerry Pinkney at a special event on October 29. Pinkney discussed the changes in his art and the illustration production process over the decades, and the challenges he faced as a young illustrator and person of color in the 50s and 60s.
